Refined Marques produces G63 Cabriolet model not offered by Mercedes-AMG

Mercedes-Benz stopped producing the G-Class Cabriolet in 2013, with the exception of the Maybach-branded G650 Landaulet. However, a limited-edition convertible G63 has been released by Dubai-based Refined Marques. The CEO, Ahmed Al Bakry, revealed that the idea to convert the current-generation G-Class into a convertible came from his 5-year-old son. The plan was initially to build just one model but it turned into a limited-edition version after a few friends were impressed and reserved one. Al Bakry’s goal was always to upgrade some of the old Cabriolet’s weak points, such as tight access to the rear seats. He added a pair of small rear doors for back-seat passengers to improve access and comfort. Additionally, he made several other small changes to the original design, such as modifying the tailgate so that it swings outward instead of down. The Refined Marques-designed G63 Cabriolet is powered by a stock, G63-sourced 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine producing 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The company plans to build only 20 units of the G63 Cabriolet, each customized to the buyer’s preferences, and they already have 19 orders being fulfilled, with the 20th build slot not expected to remain available for long.
