New spy photos reveal upcoming Audi RS 7 Avant undergoing testing

The upcoming Audi RS 7 Avant prototype was recently spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring, hinting at the continuation of Audi’s commitment to offering a powerful gasoline-powered performance wagon in its lineup. Despite Audi’s focus on electrification, evidenced by the high-voltage battery pack found in this prototype, it seems that hybrids are here to stay.

While details on the next-generation RS powertrain from Audi are still scarce, insights from Porsche’s 2024 Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid suggest that the new RS models might not see a significant increase in power output. However, the introduction of a new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid could create more room for Audi’s big RS models to shine.

The shift in nomenclature from RS 6 to RS 7 is part of Audi’s strategy to differentiate between electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) models, with even numbers designated for electric models and odds for gasoline and diesel starting in 2025. This move will likely result in a consolidation of the RS 6 and RS 7 into a single model, possibly leading to the release of an RS 7 Avant and a Sportback variant to replace the current offerings.

The potential for an A6-like sedan version will depend on market demands for executive sedans worldwide, with the current trend showing a decline in popularity, especially in the United States. Stay tuned for more updates on Audi’s future lineup.
