Mazda CX-5 2025 introduces new base S trim, starting lineup at under $30,000

The 2025 Mazda CX-5 is leading the charge in bringing back base models that had been disappearing from the market. In an effort to keep the starting price below the $30,000 threshold, Mazda has reintroduced the S trim that was removed just a year ago for the 2024 model year. Even though the S Select now starts at $31,320 for 2025 due to price adjustments over time, it still remains a competitive option. Packed with standard features such as LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, and the i-Activsense driver assistance suite, the S trim offers great value.

The base price for the S variant is $685 lower in 2025 compared to the previous year. Mazda’s strategy involves including most technology and performance features in the standard price, with no significant options available to add. Those looking for additional tech capabilities may need to consider moving up a trim level or subscribing to the Mazda Connected Services for features like traffic sign recognition.

Changes have also been made to the higher trim levels, with the elimination of the S Premium trim and a price adjustment for the S Premium Plus model. Despite the removal of the S Premium trim, the S Premium Plus now comes with a lower price tag along with additional features like a surround-view camera system and rear parking sensors. Furthermore, cabin upgrades for the Carbon Edition now include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with wireless smartphone charging.

The Mazda CX-5 lineup for 2025, after destination charges, shows the following base prices and differences from 2024 in parentheses:

– S: $29,990 (New trim)
– S Select: $31,320 ($645)
– S Preferred: $32,670 ($645)
– S Carbon Edition: $34,020 ($695)
– S Premium Plus: $36,620 ($1,255 less)
– Carbon Turbo: $38,420 ($45)
– Turbo Premium: $39,220 ($45)
– Turbo Signature: $42,020 ($45)

For power, the non-Turbo trims come equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the Turbo versions deliver 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

In terms of appearance, customers can choose from four standard colors and four premium colors available at an additional cost of either $450 or $595. The 2025 Mazda CX-5 stands out as a competitive option in the automotive market, offering a well-equipped and diverse range of trims to suit various preferences and budgets.
