Hidden Treasure: Rare 1947 Dodge Custom Club Coupe Found in Junkyard

The 1947 Dodge is one of several vehicles from the post-war era that have experienced a downward turn. Specifically, Chrysler vehicles from the 1940s and 1950s have been particularly affected, especially those with flathead straight-six engines. However, the coupe version holds more value and has avoided falling prey to the junkyard.

This particular 1947 Dodge is believed to have come out of the Dodge Main plant in Hamtramck, and bears the Dodge family crest rather than the DeSoto emblem. With an MSRP of $1,502 or about $21,451 in 2024 dollars, this model offered a lot of car for the money.

This car is part of a larger collection of vehicles ranging from the 1940s to the 1970s, which includes a variety of models from differing manufacturers that have been placed in general inventory after many years in separate storage yards. The 1947 Dodge can still serve as an ideal starting point for a street rod or race car despite the lack of glass, engine, transmission, and interior. Equipped with around-the-corner electric horns, the car is a solid shell ready for restoration.
