KALMAR Automotive Makes Off-Roading a Porsche 911 More Accessible

Denmark-based coachbuilder KALMAR Automotive is making waves in the automotive industry with its innovative kit that transforms the newer 996-generation Porsche 911 into a high-performance off-roader. This addresses a gap in the market, as many off-road 911 builds are based on older, more expensive air-cooled models.

The Rally Special-6 (RS-6) build is compatible with a range of 996-generation 911 models including the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera 4, and 911 Turbo. The kit includes a limited-slip differential, redesigned suspension system with inverted front shock absorbers, specific springs, new bushings, subframe kit, strut brace, and beefier driveshafts. Underbody protection plates and 16-inch wheels with spiked Michelin tires ensure improved off-road performance, with the RS-6 offering around 8.2 inches of ground clearance.

Despite the added features, the RS-6 maintains a weight of around 3,200 pounds, achieved through careful attention to the interior. Non-essential interior components are removed and replaced with lightweight options, with Recaro front seats and a rear roll cage as standard. Additional options include different liveries and upholstery types, adaptive shock absorbers, hydraulic-lift shock absorbers, and a roof rack designed to carry spare wheels and fuel cans.

Customers have the flexibility to customize the RS-6’s technical specifications to their preferences, including a choice between stock drivetrain or a tune that boosts output to over 500 horsepower. The cost for the conversion starts at €45,000 (about $49,000), excluding the price of the donor car.

The RS-6 is a unique offering in the market, designed to make high-performance off-roading more accessible without the need for an expensive, older 911 model. We anticipate high demand for this conversion, as the 996-generation 911 is increasingly sought-after by collectors.
