Chicago Unveils 2025 Kia K5 with Updated Design, Enhanced Performance, and Advanced Technology

Kia made quite the splash at the 2024 Chicago auto show with the reveal of the updated 2025 K5, and the midsize sedan segment will never be the same. The brand’s new offering has been updated with small design tweaks and a new naturally-aspirated engine that brings more horsepower to the table. In addition, there is a longer list of standard and optional driving aids to enhance the driving experience.

The changes made to the 2025 K5 across the Pacific reflect the South Korean-market version of the car, including the addition of lightning bolt-shaped daytime running lights called Star Map in Kia-speak, a redesigned lower bumper, and a thinner grille. The GT trim even boasts fin-shaped inserts in the air dam, adding a unique touch. The light bar that runs across the hatch has also been extended down into the bumper.

Every trim level now comes standard with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, with some variants receiving a curved, single-pane display that combines the touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster into one unit. The K5 has also been equipped with over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto across the range. The center console and the center stack have been redesigned as well.

In a departure from the “the newer the car, the smaller the engine” rule, Kia replaced the 2024 K5’s turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four, boasting an impressive 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the performance-oriented K5 GT continues to shine with its turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine pumping out 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque.

The base LXS trim comes with more standard features, such as front and rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control with a forward collision-avoidance assist function. The GT trim gets additional features such as a Bose sound system, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a digital key, a heated steering wheel, and power-folding door mirrors. Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist technology, a Surround-View Monitor, and Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse are standard as well. Kia offers a Premium Package for the GT-Line which includes a panoramic sunroof, LED interior lighting, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.

Pricing and launch information for the 2025 K5 will be announced closer to its on-sale date, but it’s safe to say that Kia has set the bar high with this latest offering. The future of midsize sedans is looking brighter than ever.
