Ford encourages dealers to lease out Mustang Mach-Es

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been in the news lately as the automaker implements a new policy allowing 2023 models to be used as rentals in dealers’ fleets. This move, which went into effect on January 15, is intended to increase the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in loaner service and support the launch of the Model e Pickup and Delivery with a Loaner standard. It will also allow non-Model e dealers to have EVs available for customers.

Dealers will receive a $1,750 discount called an “off invoice credit” on the Premium and GT trims, potentially making it a lucrative move for franchise stores. While the 2024 Mach-E is not eligible for the program, there are still as many as 17,000 2023 models on dealers’ lots. This rental initiative could ultimately result in an influx of used Mach-Es on sale down the road, but it presents an opportunity for dealers to move slow-selling inventory.

Additionally, the 2024 Mach-E is not yet listed on Ford’s consumer site, but the automaker has announced special editions and pricing for some variants. With the Tesla Model Y, an eligible vehicle for federal tax credits, being the best-selling EV in the world, the competition for the Mach-E is stiff. This makes it even more important for Ford to keep vehicles moving in the face of evolving consumer demand and competition. As a result, this rental initiative is a strategic move to keep up the momentum of Ford’s electric vehicle business.
