Ford is gearing up to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Ford Mustang GTD, and the high-performance pony car has been taken to the Nurburgring for testing. Car Spy Media has provided a three-minute video capturing the shakedown, allowing us to hear the glorious sound of the coupe’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine.
In its road-legal form, Ford aims to extract over 800 horsepower from the front end of the Mustang GTD. However, for racing purposes, GT3 regulations limit the output to 600 horses. The Mustang GTD, unveiled last August, recently had a reservation window open for the 2025 and 2026 model year production runs. Surpassing 7,500 applications were received from eager enthusiasts willing to shell out a price tag expected to far exceed $325,000 once additional options and fees are factored in.
While Ford has not provided clarity on the exact meaning of “limited production” for the Mustang GTD, it is apparent that the production numbers will be significantly lower than the number of interested applicants. After competing in Le Mans, Ford plans to enter the GTD in the 24 Hours of Spa and potentially set a new record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, further increasing the appeal of this high-performance machine.
