Edmunds Acquires a Fisker Ocean and Advises Against Replicating the Decision

It’s highly unlikely that you were considering purchasing a 2023 Fisker Ocean SUV, especially given the recent steep discounts. Nevertheless, if by some small chance you were contemplating getting behind the wheel of an Ocean, Edmunds strongly advises against it. In a recent article, the automotive website boldly declares, “Do not buy a new Fisker Ocean; Fisker’s uncertain future makes buying an Ocean too much of a gamble.” Edmunds goes beyond just a mere suggestion, sharing their firsthand experience with the battery-electric SUV they purchased in January.

From the initial version of the Ocean that lacked essential features and was purchased for $69,012, to the more improved yet still flawed model that has depreciated by at least 43%, Edmunds delves into the various issues plaguing the Ocean. Similar to their experiences with the Chevrolet Blazer EV, the Ocean suffered from dashboard warning lights, key fob malfunctions, audio system glitches, and e-motor issues that made hill stops challenging.

Although the 2.0 software update addressed some of these issues, such as the key fob and entertainment system problems, it failed to deliver anticipated features like adaptive cruise control. Furthermore, the new brake hold function is linked to a finicky driver’s-seat sensor that can accidentally engage the Park mode if the driver shifts positions.

Currently, dealers offer the Ocean at a fixed price starting at $24,999, regardless of options. Despite this tempting offer, Edmunds reiterates their advice: Do not purchase the Fisker Ocean. The uncertain future of Fisker has led to the withdrawal of financial guidance for the year, causing even brand-specific forums like Fiskerati to shift their focus towards general EV topics.

While the Fisker Ocean is not the only model facing issues, the Cybertruck Owners Club’s page dedicated to problems, repairs, warranties, and recalls is filled with multiple threads detailing various concerns with other electric vehicles. It’s clear that taking a risk on a problematic vehicle like the Fisker Ocean may end up costing you far more than just the initial purchase price of $24,999. Proceed with caution when considering investing in such a vehicle.
