Review of the 2025 Mini Countryman: Saying Goodbye to the Mini Brand

CASCAIS, Portugal — Talking about the increase in the size of the Mini Countryman and why that may be problematic. While the first Countryman that debuted in 2011 was considered large for the brand, the second-generation model released in 2017 grew larger in both dimensions and weight, moving it further from the “Mini” ideal. The new 2025 Mini Countryman goes even further, with the recent model increasing in length, height, and width. This makes the car visually and physically larger than before and further away from its tiny roots. The emphasized growth in size may not fit its brand ethos and may be a potential concern for those who expect the car to stay true to its small, nimble form. As such, it’s important to consider how the car performs in its new and significantly larger state.

Despite the noticeable increase in size, there are some standout features. The new high-performance John Cooper Works edition, with a starting price of $47,895, boasts a robust and powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a significant 312 horsepower. The vehicle has also incorporated Mini Experience Modes, which allow for adjustments to the car’s driving experience, including interior ambiance and powertrain noises.

However, the increase in weight and size does come with some drawbacks. The stiff ride on rough roads and the aggressive tuning of the brakes may be uncomfortable for some drivers. The larger dimensions also result in less nimbleness and athleticism, despite high levels of grip. Thus, the move towards a larger Mini Countryman to ensure extreme comfort and performance could be a double-edged sword. Further, within the spacious and bright interior, the lack of chrome and decision to use a variety of textiles, including some recycled materials, may not appeal to interested buyers.

Ultimately, the 2025 Mini Countryman’s increase in size presents both positive and negative aspects. It offers more power, interior space, and a host of driving options, but it’s also accompanied by a less nimble feel, a stiffer ride, and a more rugged visual appearance. Therefore, it’s crucial to consider whether the recent changes align with your expectations and requirements for a vehicle in this class.
