260,000 VW and Audi vehicles recalled due to fuel leak and fire hazard

Volkswagen and Audi have issued a recall for more than 261,000 Golf-based vehicles from the model years 2015 to 2020 due to a potential fire hazard caused by a faulty seal in the fuel pump located inside the tank. The defective seal can lead to fuel leaking into the evaporative emissions system, contaminating the charcoal canister and potentially causing fuel vapors to escape into unwanted areas.

The affected models include:

“During a recall report, Volkswagen stated that the seal rings in the suction jet pump in the fuel tank were assembled with too much tension during the manual process.”

When the seal fails, it can cause fuel to enter the EVAP system, leading to potential leakage. Drivers may notice the smell of gasoline around their vehicles without any visible spills after refueling, indicating a possible seal failure. Additionally, owners may experience issues at the gas pump where it shuts off before the tank is full.

Interestingly, a similar recall was conducted in 2016 for some of these vehicles. While some cars received a replacement pump with the same design during the previous recall, VW will now replace those pumps with an updated version to address the issue effectively.

If you own one of the affected vehicles, it is essential to be proactive and check for any signs of a faulty fuel pump seal to ensure the safety and proper functioning of your vehicle.
