Renault 4 EV Spotted Testing in Snowy Conditions

Renault is leveraging its rich history in the automotive industry to develop its EV lineup. The concept for the Renault 5, inspired by the old economy car known as the LeCar in America, has already been unveiled, with prototypes closely mirroring the show car. The same trend seems to be continuing with the upcoming Renault 4. First showcased as a concept in Paris over a year ago, spy photos reveal that the production model is staying true to the original design.

Although there is a noticeable change from the concept, with the production-style prototype featuring a more narrow and road-oriented design, the distinctive retro lines of the Renault 4 are still prominent. The unique greenhouse with arched sections for the doors and slanting rear quarter windows, along with the flat nose, horizontal hood, and LED interpretation of the round headlights, all pay homage to the original car’s design. The wheels have been toned down from the concept’s cyberpunk style but still accentuate the boxy nature of the vehicle.

The Renault 4 will be based on the CMF-BEV platform, shared with the Renault 5. While the production model may be more understated than the concept, there is speculation that Renault could position the 4 as a rugged alternative to the 5, potentially offering a version with increased ground clearance, cladding, and fender flares to appeal to crossover enthusiasts. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant may also be in the cards, although specifics from Renault remain undisclosed. Although the Renault 4 will not be available in America, it is possible that Renault’s partners Nissan and Mitsubishi could introduce vehicles based on the CMF-BEV platform in the future.

In conclusion, Renault is taking a nostalgic approach to its EV lineup, with the Renault 4 poised to offer a blend of classic design cues and modern electric technology, catering to a range of customer preferences in the automotive market.
