Porsche Macan EV achieves over 298 miles on a single charge at an average speed of over 60 mph

The Porsche Macan electric prototype recently underwent a non-scientific range test in Southern California, and the results are promising. The test involved driving at a constant speed of 70 miles per hour to determine the electric vehicle’s range and performance. The high-performance prototype that was tested is expected to have approximately 603 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, while a lower trim model was also part of the test.

The unscientific nature of the test is significant because it closely mirrors real-world driving conditions, where precise and measured driving is rare. The test also factored in typical driving conditions such as two adult passengers and normal climate control settings, providing a more realistic view of the vehicle’s capabilities. Despite these challenges, the Macan prototype showed exceptional performance, covering a distance of 298 miles with seven miles of range remaining, at an average speed of over 60 mph.

Additionally, the Porsche Taycan 4S, a high-performance electric sedan, has been recognized for its DC fast-charging capabilities. It can replenish 690 miles of range in an hour and add 100 miles in just 8 minutes and 41 seconds. Given that the Macan has a larger 100-kWh battery and a similar max charging rate to the Taycan, these numbers are expected to serve as a reference for the Macan’s charging capabilities.

Overall, the Macan prototype’s performance in the range test and the comparison with the Taycan’s charging capabilities bode well for the future of electric vehicles from Porsche. For more details on the test results, visit Edmunds for a comprehensive recap of the Macan EV’s performance.
