Looking for Hotdoggers: Become the Next Wienermobile Driver

Oscar Meyer Offers Unique Job Opportunity to Drive Iconic Wienermobile

Some of us may have started the day at a job we don’t exactly love, but there are individuals out there living out their dreams. Perhaps, you could be one of them, especially if your dream entails driving a 27-foot-long hot dog across the country. Oscar Meyer recently announced that it is seeking a dozen drivers to operate the iconic Wienermobile for one year.

The role does have a downside in that it is a temporary position, lasting only for a year. However, the selected drivers will receive a salary of $35,600, in addition to $150 per week for meals and hotel accommodations. Furthermore, comprehensive health benefits and 18 days of paid time off are included as part of the compensation package.

Although the salary may not be high, the title of “Hotdogger” is a prestigious one, as Oscar Meyer hires less than one percent of applicants for this role. Ideal candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, with a preference for those who have studied public relations and related fields. Surprisingly, more people have been to space than have driven the Wienermobile, making this a highly exclusive opportunity.

While the job itself is undoubtedly unique and appealing, it also involves a significant amount of work for a relatively modest salary. Drivers are expected to attend 1,200 events in 40 cities, covering around 20,000 miles of travel. This means a substantial amount of driving in a giant hot dog, which, although likely to be comfortable, may not be everyone’s ideal job.

The Wienermobile has seen various updates over the years, but its classic shape has remained largely unchanged. Recent modifications to the vehicle include the addition of navigational aids, an exterior audio system with a microphone, and more. Although there was a brief name change to “Frankmobile” in 2023 for promoting all-beef franks, the vehicle’s original name, the Wienermobile, was reinstated late last year.
