Kia introduces significant discounts on the all-new EV9

The Kia EV9 has recently arrived at dealerships, but Kia is already exploring ways to enhance its appeal to customers. Initially, early buyers of the EV9 received a $3,750 customer cash incentive. However, as of March 1st, Kia has increased this offer to $5,000, resulting in an entry-level price of $51,395 after factoring in a $1,495 destination fee (CarsDirect).

Additionally, Kia is providing a $1,000 loyalty discount for the EV9, which could potentially increase the overall savings for interested buyers. Furthermore, Kia has reduced the financing rates for the EV to 2.49%, as well as lowered the monthly lease prices. It is important to highlight that leasing the EV9 can serve as a workaround for the absence of tax credits, potentially resulting in a $7,500 discount at the time of purchase.

While Kia has advised dealers against adding markups to the EV9’s already relatively high price tag for a Kia, some dealers have chosen to do so. Some reports indicate markups as high as $7,000 at certain dealerships. Prior to any discounts, the EV9 was priced between $54,900 to $73,900 (excluding destination fees), making additional markups an issue for potential buyers.

Although the EV9 has outperformed the EV6 in terms of sales this year, both models do not qualify for federal tax credits. Despite its popularity, the discounts offered by Kia will help the EV9 stay competitive in the market and potentially ease the financial burden for interested buyers. This strategy mirrors the approach taken by GM with certain models that have lost tax credit eligibility.

Even without discounts, the EV9 has shown promising sales figures. With a high number of reservations following the opening of order books last year, Kia sold 1,113 units in December and 1,408 units in January. This positive reception bodes well for the upcoming Hyundai three-row EV, expected to be named the Ioniq 9. Sharing the E-GMP platform with the EV9, the new model is anticipated to be unveiled at the Busan International Motor Show in South Korea in June.
