Hyundai Ioniq 5 for 2025 introduces XRT trim and enhanced battery options

Since its initial debut, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has drawn comparisons to iconic European hot hatchbacks from the ’70s and ’80s, such as the Lancia Delta Integrale. For the upcoming 2025 model year, the electric Hyundai is introducing the new XRT trim, specifically tailored for off-road adventures on dirt roads and light trails. This latest iteration of the Ioniq 5 also brings about various enhancements, such as larger batteries, new features, and a shift in manufacturing location.

The highlight of the 2025 lineup is undoubtedly the XRT variant. Equipped solely with dual-motor all-wheel drive, the Ioniq 5 XRT undergoes minor modifications to enhance its off-road capabilities. With a 0.9-inch suspension lift, the XRT boasts improved ground clearance, approach angle (19.8 degrees), and departure angle (30 degrees). Furthermore, it comes fitted with 18-inch wheels sporting all-terrain tires, facilitating a smoother ride on unpaved roads. Visually distinctive, the XRT flaunts black plastic bumpers with a pixelated camouflage pattern, complemented by black accents and red recovery hooks. Inside, the cabin features an all-black theme, rubber floor mats, and leatherette seats, emphasizing durability and ruggedness.

Looking at the complete 2025 Ioniq 5 lineup, notable updates include larger battery packs and the inclusion of a built-in NACS connector for easier charging. The SE Standard Range model sees an increase from a 58 kWh to a 63 kWh battery, while the rest of the lineup receives an 84-kWh pack, up from the previous 77.4 kWh capacity. As a result, range improvements are evident, with the SE Standard Range model now exceeding 240 miles, and the long-range rear-wheel-drive variants surpassing 310 miles. The all-wheel-drive models are rated between slightly over 250 miles to over 280 miles, depending on the trim level. Minor enhancements to the exterior, along with standard features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot warning, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear window wiper are also part of the 2025 updates.

Notably, the 2025 Ioniq 5 will now be manufactured in Georgia, making it eligible for a $3,750 tax credit upon purchase. Pricing details are yet to be disclosed, but the new Ioniq 5 models are set to hit dealerships this fall. Stay tuned for more information as the launch date approaches.
