Hidden Treasure: Rare Find of a 1992 Honda Accord DX Coupe with 409,780 miles

As an automotive professional, let’s talk about cars with incredibly high odometer readings. When walking around a car graveyard, especially around diesel-powered Mercedes-Benzes and late 1980s, early 1990s Honda Accords, we find cars with incredibly high mileage. Today, we’ll look at a high-mileage 1992 Honda Accord, now found in a Denver-area self-service junkyard.

With 409,780.7 miles over 32 years, this base-grade Accord coupe averaged over 12,805 miles per year. This impressive mileage places Honda as a dominating force in the top 20 Murilee Martin Junkyard Odometer standings, with five Accords in the list. Some of the top high-mileage cars are a 1990 Volvo 244 with 631,999 miles, 1988 Honda Accord with 626,476 miles, and a 1987 Mercedes-Benz W201 with 601,173 miles.

The car was manufactured at Honda’s motorcycle factory in Marysville, Ohio, which was established in 1979 before commencing Accord production in 1982. The 1992 Honda Accord DX coupe features a 2.2-liter F22 SOHC straight-four engine with 125 horsepower and 137 pound-feet of torque.

Its original MSRP was $13,300, which equals about $29,571 in 2023 dollars. Notably, this base model coupe included air conditioning and a driver’s-side airbag, which were extra-cost add-ons in the 1992 Accord, defining this car as basic but practical.

This 1992 Honda Accord has some rust damage, showing holes in the usual spots. Notably, when looking into its interior, one can observe construction hardware in the floors and door pockets, suggesting its use for hauling crews to work sites for several years.

Even though it is an older vehicle, this car has served its owners well over the decades, and its scrap metal will likely be repurposed in the near future.

Improved airflow, improved cashflow: the 1990s Accord.
