Tesla recalls Model X and Model S due to door locking issue

Tesla’s recent recall of almost every vehicle for the addition of driver monitoring features to its Autopilot system has brought attention to another recall for a door defect that could cause vehicles to unlock in a crash. This recall affects over 120,000 2021-2023 Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles. If the doors unlock during a crash, the vehicles no longer comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard regulations on side-impact protection. Despite the multiple recalls from Tesla, it’s worth noting that it’s not the most recalled automaker in 2023. Ford and Honda have had a significant number of recalls, with Honda topping the list due to a recall of 2.5 million units in the U.S. (4.5 million worldwide). Stellantis, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan also make up the top-five most recalled automakers in 2023.

While recalls can be seen as a negative aspect for automakers, they demonstrate a commitment to identifying and resolving issues, regardless of size. Tesla’s innovative over-the-air recall fix is a significant development in the automotive industry, showing the potential for remote updates to streamline the recall process. This willingness to address issues promptly and efficiently is a positive step for the automotive industry as a whole.
