Ram has officially entered the electric vehicle market with the release of the battery-powered ProMaster van. This van comes in two configurations and features a unique battery pack placement that maintains the interior cargo volume. The delivery model is currently available for order, with 12- and 13-foot cargo variants set to join the lineup at a later date. The delivery model will have a roll-up curtain at the back, while the cargo version will feature conventional side-hinged doors. To set the EV apart, only a few emblems differentiate it from the V6-powered model, and the charging port is cleverly integrated behind the fuel filler door. The ProMaster EV is built on a 159-inch wheelbase and is equipped with a 110-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that powers the front wheels. This translates to an output of 268 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, offering a range of up to 162 miles in city driving.
While the cargo model boasts a 3,020-pound payload, the delivery model can accommodate 2,030 pounds. In comparison, the ProMaster V6 offers a 4,010-pound payload. Although specific fuel economy figures are not available, the 24-gallon fuel tank can provide over 300 miles of driving range. It is reported that the EV offers a low total cost of ownership as a trade-off. Additionally, users can charge the vehicle at up to 150 kilowatts and have access to Ram Telematics software that aids in fleet management and provides real-time diagnostic data. Optional features include a surround-view camera and a 115-volt outlet.
The 2024 ProMaster EV is available for advance orders, with pricing details yet to be announced. Looking ahead, Ram plans to expand the electric range with two roof heights, two cargo lengths, and two body styles, though it remains to be seen whether a passenger model will be introduced.
