Road rage poses a significant threat to road safety, often leading to dangerous and deadly situations. Car subscription service Finn recently analyzed data from AAA, the IIHS, and others to identify the states with the highest prevalence of road rage and deadly accidents. The results showed that some of the nation’s least populated states are among the most perilous for drivers.
While Arizona was identified as the worst state for road rage, Montana ranked highest for the most fatal car accidents per capita. South Carolina and Wyoming followed closely behind. Notably, Montana saw a 16 percent increase in deadly crashes in 2021, with over half attributed to impaired driving and 39 percent caused by speeding. This poses a significant risk to drivers, especially in a state with high posted speed limits.
Further analysis revealed that Mississippi had the highest number of deaths resulting from fatal accidents, with 772 deaths from 697 accidents in 2021. South Carolina also experienced a high number of deaths from accidents, particularly in rural areas. However, some states, such as Minnesota, Hawaii, and New Hampshire, demonstrated lower incidence of road rage, presenting a safer environment for drivers. Even in states with high road rage incidents, it is essential for drivers to avoid confrontation and remain calm to ensure safety on the road.
