Mercedes Unveiling AI-Powered Virtual Assistant at CES

Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce an even more advanced version of its MBUX infotainment system and MB.OS software platform at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. This unveiling will showcase the luxury automaker’s new AI-powered virtual assistant, which is expected to elevate the “driver-car relationship” by offering a more natural and human-like interaction. Attendees can anticipate an array of “class-defining new features and collaborations” designed to enhance in-car entertainment, including an innovative “expressive new face” that utilizes Unity’s game-engine graphics.

The automotive industry is witnessing a surge in the development of in-car AI assistants. BMW recently unveiled its own AI-powered “companion” named DEE, which was showcased as part of the i Vision Dee concept car. General Motors and Volvo have also delved into the realm of AI assistants, with GM exploring the use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Volvo integrating ChatGPT outside the car for customer inquiries. Additionally, Toyota has incorporated an AI assistant named Joya into its Sienna minivan to assist owners in learning about their vehicles. Today, it has been announced that TomTom and Microsoft are collaborating on AI technology for automotive applications.

Many industry experts believe that AI-powered assistants are an ideal technology for cars, as they have the potential to answer questions and execute commands, allowing drivers to stay focused on the road. Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that its new Voice Assistant will provide comprehensive answers to a wide range of inquiries, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

The highly-anticipated debut of Mercedes-Benz’s new virtual assistant will take place on January 9 in Las Vegas, showcasing the Concept CLA battery-electric sedan and a camouflaged example of the electric G-Class prototype. This represents an exciting step forward in the integration of AI technology within the automotive industry.
