Introducing the Limited-Edition Shelby Series 2 Coupe with Sleek Fastback Design

Shelby is commemorating 25 years of the Series 1, the first vehicle designed from scratch by company founder Carroll Shelby, by bringing it back as a coupe. Buyers now have the option to select between an aluminum and a carbon fiber body for the new Series 2, with the freedom to choose and install their desired engine post-purchase.

For those unfamiliar with the Series 1, it was introduced at the 1997 Los Angeles auto show as a modern interpretation of the famous Shelby Cobra. Originally intended to produce 500 units, the production was halted after 249 units due to various challenges, including federal safety standards-related obstacles. The planned successor, the updated Series 2, was revealed in 2006 but was delayed until 2018 when Shelby announced intentions to manufacture four units annually.

The 2024 version of the Series 2 closely resembles the 2018 model, featuring a fixed roof and a fastback-like roof line. Production will be handled by Wingard Motorsports and Custom Coaches in Maryland, with improved brakes, suspension changes, and chassis modifications to accommodate over 1,100 horsepower. The Series 2 will be sold without an engine, allowing buyers to customize their choice of engine installation.

Shelby is recommending three engine options for the Series 2. The first is a 427-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) Windsor V8 built by Shelby. The second option is Ford’s 7.3-liter V8 Godzilla crate engine, originally designed for heavy-duty pickups. The third option is an electric drivetrain, which has yet to be detailed.

A total of 10 units of the Series 2 coupe will be built by Wingard Motorsports and Custom Coaches on behalf of Shelby. Pricing for the seven carbon fiber-bodied cars starts at $385,600, while the three aluminum-bodied examples are priced at $498,200. These prices do not include options, with Shelby emphasizing that each Series 2 coupe will be unique. The engine options start at $83,500, plus the cost of installation.
