Hyundai offers a first look at the NPX1 concept for the Tokyo Auto Salon

In December, Hyundai held its N Festival event in its home market, during which an automaker presentation provided insights into upcoming racing activities. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the eN1 Cup Car, an electric race car based on the Ioniq 5. With its impressive design and performance enhancements, the eN1 Cup Car generated significant excitement, especially as it previewed Hyundai’s N Performance division’s participation in the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon.

Dubbed the NPX1 for the Tokyo Auto Salon, the concept car bears a striking resemblance to the eN1 Cup Car, hinting at what to expect from Hyundai’s racing division. Speculation suggests that “X” in the name represents the concept nature of the vehicle, possibly abbreviated as N Performance Concept 1.

A potential race-ready version of the eN1, the eN1 Cup Car is expected to undergo significant modifications, including a weight reduction of up to 551 pounds compared to the retail Ioniq 5 N through measures such as stripped-out interiors and polycarbonate windows. Additionally, an adjustable suspension and a set of high-performance wheels with racing slicks and advanced braking systems are projected to enhance the vehicle’s on-track performance.

Hyundai’s plans for the eN1 Cup Car align with reports of similar modifications being prepared for the new Elantra N Cup Car. Furthermore, a testing campaign for the eN1 Cup Car is scheduled to commence in May, coinciding with the anticipated debut of the Elantra N Cup Car on the tracks. Moreover, Hyundai is reportedly aiming to expand the race series to Europe and the U.S., showcasing the company’s ambitious plans for motorsport.

The NPX1 video also suggests the presence of #NPerformanceParts, indicating that Hyundai’s performance division is set to introduce some innovative developments. This aligns with the automaker’s previous showcases of advanced technologies and performance enhancements, such as carbon fiber wheels and lightweight components.

With the Tokyo Auto Salon set to begin imminently, the automotive community eagerly awaits more information on Hyundai’s latest offerings and advancements in high-performance automotive technology. Stay tuned for further updates.
