Ford has a history of selling off the first example of a coveted model to support a charitable cause. The company has partnered with Barrett-Jackson to host its initial charity auction of 2024 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The highest bidder will secure the first Mustang Dark Horse while also contributing to a worthy cause.
The VIN 001 Mustang Dark Horse has already been configured, and will feature a unique Blue Ember Metallic finish with a black and blue interior, making it distinct from other Mustang models. Equipped with features such as a painted hood, racing stripes, and vinyl-upholstered Recaro seats with micro-suede inserts, as well as the optional Handling Package, this vehicle is truly one-of-a-kind.
Powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque, the first Mustang Dark Horse comes with the option of a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. With six-piston Brembo front brake calipers and Pirelli Trofeo RS tires, this high-performance vehicle is designed to deliver an exhilarating driving experience.
While the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse is priced at $61,725 including a $1,595 destination charge, it is expected that VIN 001 will command a significantly higher price at the charity auction. The entire hammer price will be donated to the JRDF, a non-profit organization focused on funding research into type 1 diabetes.
The auction for the first Mustang Dark Horse will take place on January 27, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Those interested in owning this unique vehicle can participate in the live auction event in Scottsdale or register to bid online.
In a similar charity auction in January 2023, Barrett-Jackson helped Ford sell the first seventh-generation Mustang for $565,000, with all proceeds benefiting the JRDF.
