First glimpse of Mate Rimac’s Project 3 Mobility robotaxi revealed

Rimac’s Chief Mate Rimac initiated discussions about the Project 3 Mobility (P3M) division last year, positioning it as a distinct entity within Rimac. The concept has been in development for over five years, diverging significantly from the realm of million-dollar hypercars to focus on an electric robotaxi that could revolutionize urban transportation. Reports earlier this year hinted at a concept unveiling of a groundbreaking vehicle that deviates from traditional car models. A teaser posted on Instagram by the CEO showcased a stop-motion animation featuring a mysterious silhouette reminiscent of a conventional car.

The teaser’s caption intriguingly encourages viewers to “Stay in the looooop!” – a tagline that hints at potential features like autonomous driving within designated city zones. The inclusion of a flying cat in the teaser excites curiosity, leaving viewers eager to uncover the full story behind Rimac’s innovative vision.

Rimac’s approach differs from the conventional autonomous vehicle strategies in the U.S., which primarily focus on replicating current driving experiences within existing infrastructures. Project 3 Mobility emphasizes a broader perspective, highlighting various ecosystem components beyond autonomous driving systems. Along with developing advanced autonomous technology, the division is actively working on establishing charging stations, storage hubs, and parking facilities to complement their innovative approach to urban mobility.

The official Project 3 website now reflects the company’s mission to redefine urban mobility and create a seamless, safe, and autonomous urban transport system. A recent funding round secured 100 million euros ($108M U.S.), signaling progress towards the estimated 535 million euros ($578M U.S.) needed for a successful market launch. The first fleet of robotaxis is anticipated to debut on the streets of Zagreb, Croatia in 2026, with subsequent launches planned for the UK and Germany in 2027. Stay tuned as Rimac’s P3M division reshapes the future of urban transportation.
