Classic Find: 1962 Buick Electra 225 4-Door Sedan Unearthed in Junkyard

Buick’s Electra vehicle became available from 1959 to 1990, with continued production past 1990 though the Park Avenue trim level. Junkyard Gem located one of the especially attractive second-generation models from 1961 to 1964. These model cars were the most high-priced Buick options available in 1962, with the MSRP reaching $4,051, equivalent to around $41,462 in 2023 dollars.

The engine used in this particular Electra was a 401-cubic-inch (6.5-liter) “Nailhead” V8, boasting 325 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, ideal for powerful movement of hefty land yachts. The Electra was unique in that it came equipped only with automatic transmission. This car even has an original car radio that adheres to the nuclear-attack-warning frequencies specifications of the CONELRAD.

This specific vehicle has undergone numerous body restorations, but overall has minimal rust and is significantly less valuable than its other model counterparts, reducing the likelihood of a future restoration.

In the early 1990s, baseball cards were discovered inside the Electra, hinting that it had been permanently out of commission for a long time.
