Chevy Equinox 2025 receives major update and introduces new Activ trim variant

Chevrolet is making a big leap into the electric car market, placing high hopes on the Equinox EV as a potential volume model for the brand. Nevertheless, GM is still in the process of developing its Ultium electric models, which means there’s still a demand for internal combustion options. With that in mind, the gas-powered Equinox is finally getting a redesign for the 2025 model year.

This redesign goes beyond just a cosmetic makeover. Chevrolet has revamped the Equinox with a new platform and a bold new exterior that features a larger grille, squared-off wheel arches, and pronounced fender flares. The vehicle’s new design also offers different styling options based on trim level, such as the sporty RS trim with a black roof and mesh grille, and the rugged Activ trim with a big grille and aggressive all-terrain tires.

Inside, the 2025 Equinox boasts an all-new interior with a standard 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The use of visible buttons and knobs for climate control, a volume knob, and continued support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make the interior both modern and intuitive. The Activ and RS trims each have their own unique interior designs, setting them apart with distinct color schemes and perforated patterns.

For the 2025 model year, the Equinox will retain the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine but with slight updates that result in five additional horsepower. Another key change is the introduction of a CVT or an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the outgoing six-speed unit. These improvements in the drivetrain could potentially lead to better fuel economy compared to the previous model.

In terms of safety, Chevrolet is packing the new Equinox with standard features such as front and rear automatic emergency braking, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, adaptive cruise control with lane-keep assist, and rear parking sensors. Additional safety options include surround-view cameras, digital rearview mirror, traffic sign recognition, speed assist, and rear pedestrian detection.

Pricing for the 2025 Equinox has not been released, but the base trim LT is expected to start around $28,000 to $30,000, in line with the pricing of the current LT. Although the exact availability date has not been announced, the new Equinox should be hitting the market sometime within the year.
