Introducing the Long-Term Test of the Subaru WRX: Let’s Boost!

We are preparing to welcome a long-term Subaru WRX into our fleet, bidding farewell to our futuristic Kia EV6. This represents the diverse options available for consumers, as well as the shifting landscape of the automotive industry.

The latest WRX has undergone a redesign, sparking debate among the staff due to its controversial styling. The prominent plastic cladding on the sides and rear has garnered attention, leaving us divided on our opinions. However, after spending a year with it, we hope to have a definitive answer.

Under the hood, the new WRX boasts a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer-four engine that delivers 272 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. The engine offers a smooth and modern revving experience, while still retaining the characterful rumble the WRX is known for.

In terms of interior, the base trim features a unique dual display setup. However, the higher trims, including our Limited tester, have a tall, vertical touchscreen that fills the central dash area. This generation of the WRX marks significant progress for Subaru in its sport sedan offerings.

The WRX is an iconic all-wheel drive performance car, which is why we have chosen it for our long-term assessment. In addition to testing its capabilities over the course of a year, we plan to explore aftermarket modifications from ProDrive, hoping to provide valuable insights for prospective WRX owners. Furthermore, we aim to conduct comparison tests with other affordable compact performance cars, including both AWD and front-drive models.

Our WRX is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and comes in Solar Orange Pearl exterior paint. Opting for the Limited trim allows us to assess the value of additional features such as steering-responsive LED headlights, Ultrasuede-trimmed seats, and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. We have also added premium accessories from the configurator to enhance the vehicle’s functionality and aesthetics.

As winter approaches, we have equipped the WRX with a set of Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 winter tires to ensure it performs optimally in cold conditions. Stay tuned to follow our journey with the new WRX – it’s going to be an exciting year in automotive exploration.
