Flagship SUV previewed in Genesis Neolun concept’s debut at the New York Auto Show

NEW YORK – The Genesis lineup is expanding with the introduction of the Neolun concept at the New York Auto Show. This large, flagship luxury SUV not only previews a production model but also provides a glimpse into the future of Genesis design.

The exterior of the Neolun features a simple, upright SUV shape with clean panels, gently curved corners, large wheels, a two-tone paint scheme, and signature dual lighting inspired by Korean moon-shaped jars. Chief creative officer Luc Donkerwolke mentioned that the design draws inspiration from traditional Korean craftsmanship.

A standout feature of the Neolun is its rear coach doors, reminiscent of the Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition. Genesis hints that this unique design element could make its way to the production model.

Inside, the Neolun boasts a luxurious interior adorned with purple cashmere and leather, diamond-stitched seats, button-tufted door panels, and a massive flexible screen that can adjust to various heights. The front seats can swivel to create a lounge area with real wood flooring, complemented by an elaborate sound system with a swiveling tweeter emerging from a crystal sphere on the dash. Radiant panels on hard surfaces provide heat, paying homage to traditional Korean heating methods.

Although the concept only includes two rows of seats, a production version could potentially offer a third row as an option. Genesis has not disclosed a timeline for the production model, but they have confirmed that a flagship SUV like the Neolun is in development. With Genesis’s track record of translating concepts into production models, we can expect to see a model similar to the Neolun in the near future, possibly based on the same platform as the Kia EV9 three-row electric SUV. Stay tuned for more updates on Genesis’s latest offerings.
