Edmunds’ Experience with the Chevy Blazer EV is off to a Rough Start

Edmunds.com, a reputable automotive publication, is one of the few that actually purchases its long-term test vehicles, giving them a wide selection to test, including new electric vehicles. However, their experience with new EV models has historically not been positive. The original Tesla Model S and subsequent Teslas, as well as the Lucid Air and the original Chevy Bolt EV, all experienced significant problems during their long-term ownership. This small sample size suggests that being an early adopter of a new EV model may not be the wisest move.

Their most recent experience with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV has been equally problematic. After only 2 months of ownership, the vehicle experienced 23 problems, which were detailed in a post by Edmunds. Error messages appeared during a drive from Los Angeles to San Diego, and upon taking it to a dealer, they were presented with a “longest list of major faults” seen on a new car.

Additionally, after the initial post, Edmunds received feedback from other Blazer EV owners who reported similar issues, including one individual whose vehicle is currently inoperable after only five days of ownership. This ongoing experience with the Blazer EV raises concerns about the reliability of this new electric model.

Given the collaborative effort of GM and the dealer to find a fix for the issues encountered by Edmunds, there is hope that these efforts may benefit other impacted Blazer EV owners as well. However, the ongoing challenges faced by early adopters of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV raise questions about the vehicle’s overall reliability and the potential risks of being an early adopter of new electric models in the automotive market.
