Defender has recently taken a significant step forward by transitioning from a nameplate within the Land Rover family to becoming a standalone brand under the JLR group. The brand’s first SUV post-independence is the Octa, a high-performance variant of the Defender set to be unveiled in July 2024.
While we’ve caught glimpses of the Octa before, the latest images released by Defender provide a more detailed look at what this off-roader has to offer. Boasting a bold and robust design, the Octa features a larger grille, additional air intakes on the front bumper, and a more pronounced hood bulge. With wide wheel arch flares, specific off-road tires, red tow hooks at the rear, and sturdy skid plates underneath, the Octa is clearly built for serious off-road challenges.
The Octa is equipped with the 6D Dynamics suspension system, a hydraulic technology that effectively manages body movement and increases wheel travel to enhance off-road capabilities. Rigorous testing in harsh environments like the deserts near Dubai and off-road courses in Moab ensures that the Octa can handle extreme conditions with ease.
In addition to its off-road prowess, the Octa is designed for impressive on-road performance. Powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the Octa promises a thrilling driving experience. The 6D Dynamics system offers excellent on-road dynamics, further complemented by testing on the demanding Nürburgring track in Germany.
The official unveiling of the Octa is scheduled for July 3, 2024, with a select group of clients given the opportunity to place orders ahead of the public debut. While specific availability details are yet to be revealed, Defender hints at limited production numbers in the first year, suggesting that the Octa will be a sought-after and exclusive model in the automotive market.
