Dealers Get Sneak Peek at Ford Mustang Variants and Future Product Lineup

April and May stirred up some exciting developments in the world of pony cars, with a particular focus on the iconic Ford Mustang, now the sole remaining pony car in production. Amidst this buzz, GM President Mark Reuss hinted at a potential electric four-door Chevrolet Camaro with a fun-to-drive nature and a price point around the range of the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV. If equipped with high performance features, this electric Camaro could potentially undercut its competitors in terms of pricing.

On the other side of Michigan, Ford CEO Jim Farley shared his insights on the future of the Mustang with Autocar, ruling out a fully electric variant while hinting at the possibility of a sedan-like model with the performance and attitude of the original Mustang. Recent Ford dealer meetings in Las Vegas further revealed new horizons for the Mustang, including concepts for four-door and off-road versions. This shift marks a new direction for the Mustang brand.

At the dealer meetings, a family-oriented Mustang concept named Mach 4 was showcased alongside a rugged off-road model described as a “Baja model”. The unveiling of these concepts raises questions about their proximity to actual market launch. Additionally, Vaughn Gittin Jr’s RTR introduced an EcoBoost variant of the Mustang in the $40,000 price range, aimed at expanding Ford’s performance offerings with a fresh engine choice.

Despite the absence of Shelby badges, a high-performance convertible Mustang with a manual transmission has garnered attention as a potential replacement for the Shelby GT500, signaling a new chapter in Ford’s performance lineup. Rumors suggest that Ford is considering a unique name for this model rather than continuing with the Shelby badge tradition.

Furthermore, recent developments in Ford’s lineup extend beyond the Mustang, with dealers getting a glimpse of a compact van based on the Maverick pickup platform, slated for a potential 2025 release. Additionally, a battery-electric platform supporting various models, including a sedan, small SUV, and pickup, was previewed to dealers as part of Ford’s future expansion plans.

In response to inquiries about these previews, a Ford spokesperson expressed enthusiasm about the company’s upcoming portfolio expansion across different price points. Dealers have responded positively to these developments, highlighting a renewed sense of optimism and forward-focused approach from Ford in shaping the future of its vehicle lineup.
