Top 10 cars driven by individuals who received speeding tickets in 2024

Some insight from surveys and data analyses regarding American driving habits can be quite surprising, while others simply confirm what we already know. The most recent study from Insurify delves into the car models whose drivers have received the most speeding tickets in 2024. While there are a few unexpected entries like the Chevy Cruze Limited and the Scion tC, one standout is the Subaru BRZ, a sleek sports car known for its speed and agility.

According to the study, Subaru BRZ owners have a 113 percent higher speeding ticket rate compared to the average across all models. A staggering 17.7 percent of registered BRZ owners have received speeding tickets, with nearly a quarter of them having multiple citations on record. On top of that, BRZ owners pay an average of $3,540 annually for insurance, significantly higher than those with a clean driving record.

It’s crucial to acknowledge the seriousness of speeding-related accidents, with 33 fatalities per day reported in 2022 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Sports cars, like the BRZ, often attract drivers seeking performance and speed. However, the study also mentions higher insurance premiums for such vehicles due to theft risks and costly specialty parts that drive up repair expenses.

The top 10 most-ticketed cars list features six sports or sporty cars, with the Subaru BRZ leading the pack. Other notable mentions include the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Volkswagen GTI, Nissan 350Z, Subaru WRX, and the Scion FR-S. These cars appeal to speed enthusiasts but come with the burden of increased insurance costs for owners with speeding tickets.

Noteworthy in the survey are the Toyota Yaris iA and the Chevy Malibu, tied for the tenth position. Despite its modest 106 horsepower, the Yaris iA still manages to attract drivers who engage in speeding violations. It’s essential to note that individuals with speeding tickets can expect a 16 percent hike in insurance premiums for full coverage, impacting their costs for three to five years.
