The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N set to debut in racing events in late 2024.

Hyundai’s move into electric racing is gaining momentum with the debut of the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car. Scheduled to hit the track in 2024, this electric hot hatch will be competing in the newly formed eN1 category designed exclusively for electric vehicles.

Underneath the race-ready exterior, the eN1 Cup is based on the standard Ioniq 5 N. Utilizing Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), this model is equipped with dual electric motors, one for each axle, powered by an 84-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that can deliver up to 641 horsepower. It’s important to note that this power output is achieved with the aid of a temporary overboost function, with a still impressive 601 horsepower without it.

In terms of design, the eN1 Cup model was specifically developed for professional drivers, featuring a more aggressive body kit with a larger front bumper, wheel arch flares for a wider track, polycarbonate windows, unique side skirts, and a substantial rear wing to increase downforce. Additionally, the rear bumper boasts a wide diffuser, and the car sits on five-spoke forged wheels wrapped in high-performance tires.

Inside, the eN1 Cup showcases a racing-focused setup, including a rectangular steering wheel, a racing seat, and a digital instrument cluster. Much of the interior trim has been removed to reduce weight, resulting in a total weight of approximately 4,350 pounds, around 500 pounds lighter than the standard production model. Notably, the eN1 is equipped with an on-board fire suppression system specifically tailored for EVs, ensuring safety on the track.

The eN1’s 800-volt electrical system enables rapid charging speeds of up to 350 kilowatts. While details regarding driving range post-modifications are still pending, it will be interesting to see how the vehicle performs in intense racing conditions.

Stay tuned for more information about the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup’s racing program as further updates are expected in the near future.
