Mazda is making exciting moves for drivers who want to hit the track with their Miata. The recent unveiling of the RS concept at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon and the upgrades given to the Japanese-market version of the Mazda3 hatchback demonstrate Mazda’s commitment to racing enthusiasts.
Under the “Mazda Spirit Racing” label, the RS concept takes cues from the ND-generation Miata and features a revised suspension system. Combining racing expertise with street-legal practicality, the RS concept promises enhanced performance while retaining relative comfort. The car’s distinctive visual updates, including a unique front splitter, side skirts, and black wheels, make it stand out from the standard Miata.
The Mazda3-based concept receives similar enhancements and boasts a gray finish with a bold black stripe on the hood. The lineup also includes track-only concepts like a wide-bodied 3 hatchback with a 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine running on biodiesel. Notably, the concept Miata is built to compete in the ST-5 category of the Super Taikyu Series in Japan and has already made its debut in racing events.
