Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S Celebrates 45th Anniversary at Cannonball Run

Meet the iconic 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S, famous for its role in the 1981 movie “The Cannonball Run,” a vehicle that captured the hearts of car enthusiasts and inspired a generation of automotive enthusiasts. This particular Lamborghini model, featuring 12 exhaust pipes and a unique design unlike any other, left a lasting impact on viewers and fans alike.

In celebration of the 45th anniversary of this heroic car, Lamborghini recently reunited the actresses who drove it on screen for the first time since the film’s production. Adrienne Barbeau and Tara Buckman, who portrayed memorable characters in the movie, shared their experiences of being part of such an iconic production. Even to this day, the demand for their autographs on Countach model cars continues to show the lasting influence of this classic film.

Originally leaving the Lamborghini factory in Italy in a striking Nero over Senape color scheme, this specific Countach was shipped to a dealer in Rome before finding its way to a buyer in Florida, all thanks to connections made through the film’s director, Hal Needham. The unique modifications made to the car for its movie appearance, including the front wing, extra headlights, and numerous exhaust pipes, served to distinguish it as a truly special piece of automotive history.

Currently owned by Florida resident Jeff Ippoliti, who acquired the vehicle in 2009 after spotting it in 2007, this Lamborghini Countach holds a special place in automotive history. Recognized by the Library of Congress and listed on the National Historic Vehicle Register in 2021, this particular Countach is the 30th vehicle to receive such prestigious recognition.

While the film “The Cannonball Run” has yet to be inducted into the National Film Registry, its impact on automotive culture and enthusiasts remains undeniable. The legacy of the 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S lives on, showcasing the enduring influence of this classic movie and its iconic car.
