Fisker Expands Direct Sales Model with New Dealerships to Drive EV Sales Growth

Fisker, an electric vehicle company, announced on Thursday its plans to expand its sales and delivery network by adding dealerships alongside its direct-to-customer distribution model. This move comes as the California-based company seeks to increase its reach in the United States and Canada, as well as in Europe.

Currently, Fisker operates two showrooms, or Fisker Lounges, in North America, located in Los Angeles and New York, and retail stores called Fisker Center+ in other locations. In Europe, the company offers direct sales but intends to bring onboard partners for sales and distribution.

Despite manufacturing over 10,000 vehicles in 2023, Fisker faced distribution constraints and delivered only about 4,700 units of the Ocean sport utility vehicles. In an effort to address these challenges, Fisker plans to add as many as 50 dealer partners in the US and Canada, as well as a similar number of dealer locations in Europe by the end of the year.

CEO Henrik Fisker stated, “We are evolving our business model and intend to add as many as 50 dealer partners in the US and Canada and a similar number of dealer locations in Europe this year.” The company aims to send its first Ocean vehicles to new dealers by the end of the first quarter and has been in discussions with potential dealer partners since November 2023.

The shift towards adding dealerships is not unique to Fisker, as other electric vehicle manufacturers such as Lucid, Rivian, and VinFast Auto are also incorporating similar models. This new approach aims to replicate the success of Elon Musk-led Tesla’s online and direct-to-consumer sales model while bringing in partners to facilitate sales and distribution.

By expanding its dealership network, Fisker is signaling its commitment to growth and reaching a wider customer base. The addition of dealerships in key markets will likely enhance the availability and accessibility of Fisker’s vehicles, further solidifying its position in the competitive electric vehicle market.
