Confirmation of BMW M5 Touring: Wagon enthusiasts celebrate!

It wasn’t long ago that BMW head designer Domagoj Dukec hinted that the next-generation M5 would be available in North America in both sedan and wagon body styles. After initial denials and uncertainty, BMW has officially confirmed that the upcoming 7th generation of the BMW M5 sedan will indeed be joined by a Touring variant in the US for the first time.

With the revelation of the M5’s dual body options, attention now shifts to its performance capabilities, which are still shrouded in secrecy. Spy shots of the next-gen M5, in both sedan and wagon forms, have been circulating for months, fueling speculation about a potential plug-in powertrain delivering over 700 horsepower and equipped with all-wheel drive. BMW has teased the use of an M Hybrid drivetrain similar to the one in the BMW M Hybrid V8 GTP race car, featuring a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor and battery.

In terms of design, we anticipate aggressive styling cues that reflect the M5’s expected high-performance nature, with prototypes thankfully lacking any over-the-top camouflage. Will there be different performance levels (Competition? Red Label?) and how much will it cost? These details remain unknown, with production slated to commence in the fourth quarter of this year.

For the first time in history, American enthusiasts will have access to the M5 Touring variant, opening up new possibilities for fun and practicality in the performance sedan segment. Stay tuned for further updates as we eagerly await the full unveiling of the BMW M5 sedan and Touring models.
