Suzuki remains open to the idea of converting the Jimny into a small pickup truck.

Suzuki provided a glimpse of the potential pickup version of the current-generation Jimny through a concept introduced in 2019, hinting at the expansion of the lineup. Despite the availability of a four-door Jimny, a pickup truck variant has not yet been seen. However, Suzuki’s Australian division general manager, Michael Pachota, suggested that the project may still be alive. He mentioned that “anything that starts with Jimny ends in sales,” hinting at the brand’s interest in exploring the possibility of a pickup model.

The idea of transforming the versatile Jimny into a truck is not entirely new, as a New Zealand dealer already offers a custom-built Jimny pickup called Ute. This version features a flatbed with folding sides, showcasing the adaptability of the Jimny platform.

While it remains uncertain whether the potential Jimny trucklet will resemble the 2019 concept or the existing Ute model, Pachota’s comments suggest a two-door configuration without a crew-cab option. Speculations point towards a revival of the Mighty Boy name for this unique model.

The strong demand for the Jimny has encouraged Suzuki to invest further in the model, with Australian sales experiencing a significant surge. Customers are facing wait times of several months due to the high demand, particularly for the automatic two-door variant.

Looking towards the future, Suzuki plans to introduce hybrid and electric versions of the Jimny to meet emissions regulations in various markets. The hybrid variant is expected to arrive before the electric version. Additionally, the aftermarket industry continues to innovate, with custom versions of the Jimny inspired by iconic vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Ford Bronco, and the classic Lancia Delta rally car.
