The Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck are two of the most popular electric pickup trucks on the market today. According to recent data from S&P Global Mobility, the F-150 Lightning led the pack in March with 2,893 new registrations, while the Cybertruck followed closely behind with 1,158 new registrations. In comparison, Rivian’s R1T only had 548 new registrations in the same period.
Both Tesla and Ford have seen success with their electric pickup trucks, with Tesla beginning deliveries of the Cybertruck in November and Ford releasing the F-150 Lightning in 2022. Despite initial excitement for the Cybertruck, some customers were disappointed when the final product was presented over budget and with a lower range than initially advertised.
While Tesla has not disclosed the exact number of Cybertrucks delivered, a recent recall of around 3,878 vehicles produced between November 13 and April 4 provides some insight into production numbers. Prior to the Cybertruck’s delivery event, it had garnered as many as 2 million reservations, solidifying its status as a highly coveted vehicle among consumers.
Both Tesla and Ford have faced challenges in the EV market, with Tesla experiencing its first year-over-year quarterly decline since 2020 and Ford announcing plans to reduce its workforce at the factory producing the F-150 Lightning.
