Audi secures commanding victory in 2024 Dakar Rally, finishing well ahead of runners-up

Audi Sport’s victory at the 2024 Dakar Rally has made waves in the automotive industry, with fans and professionals lauding Spanish pilot Carlos Sainz and co-driver Lucas Cruz for their impressive and dominant performance. The event, which spanned over two weeks and across challenging terrain, saw the Audi RS Q E-Tron secure a victory with an 80-minute lead over the runner-up Toyota team.

The pioneering design of the RS Q E-Tron features a series-hybrid drivetrain that incorporates a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 52-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, and three electric motors, adapted from Audi’s Formula E car. The impressive performance, both on-road and off-road, solidifies Audi’s reputation as a leader in automotive innovation.

The 2024 Dakar Rally also saw Giniel de Villiers and co-pilot Dennis Murphy secure the second spot in a GR DKR Hilux Evo prototype, closely followed by Sébastien Loeb and co-pilot Fabian Lurquin in a Prodrive Hunter. Ricky Brabec’s outstanding win in the bike category on a Honda CRF450 Rally was equally noteworthy.

As the automotive world eagerly awaits the next edition of the Dakar Rally, speculation looms about Audi’s potential return to defend its title. Competing against new factory-backed teams, such as Ford and Dacia, would certainly make for an exciting 2025 edition. While rumors abound, an official decision from Audi remains pending. Audi fans and rally enthusiasts alike are eagerly anticipating the confirmation of the team’s participation in the future.
