McLaren set to unveil ultra-exclusive flagship model by year’s end

McLaren is set to unveil its newest addition to the Ultimate Series later this year, joining the prestigious lineup that includes the Senna, Senna GTR, Speedtail, and Elva. This upcoming release will be a worthy successor to iconic models from the past such as the F1 and P1. Anticipated to be priced at roughly $2 million and scheduled for a 2026 release, McLaren is expected to produce only 400 units of this highly exclusive vehicle.

The selection process for this new Ultimate Series car is already underway, with priority given to those who have purchased the rare $2.5 million Solus GT track car. The Solus GT, initially introduced as a concept in the Vision Gran Turismo program, was brought to life with 25 real examples, each boasting a powerful 829-horsepower 5.2-liter V10 engine.

Dealers who recently attended McLaren meetings in Las Vegas revealed details about a new model codenamed P18. This car is described as a blend of the elegant design elements seen in the P1 and the cutting-edge technology of the Senna, featuring gullwing doors instead of the signature butterfly doors. The vehicle will showcase innovative design elements such as eye-socket headlights, floating fenders, various air intakes, and an active aerodynamic system that includes a deployable wing with a unique extension mechanism.

Powering the P18 is an all-new V8 hybrid powertrain, distinct from any previous McLaren offerings. With the combustion engine developed in collaboration with Riccardo and a hybrid system that is significantly lighter than existing models, this vehicle promises exceptional performance. Steering precision remains a top priority, as McLaren will continue to utilize hydraulic steering in conjunction with a new hydraulic suspension setup.

Trademark filings in the UK hint at potential market names for the new Ultimate Series car, with possibilities such as W1, MP1, U1, and H1 being considered. Additionally, McLaren’s chief design officer Tobias Sühlmann alluded to the brand’s plans for a diverse portfolio featuring models with more than two doors and seats, as part of their revamped design language.

Looking ahead, McLaren enthusiasts can expect a wave of new releases leading up to the launch of the 2026 Ultimate Series car. With a focus on innovation and differentiation, McLaren is poised to redefine the luxury automotive landscape with its future offerings.
