Tesla Was Reluctant to Add Side Mirrors to the Cybertruck

The release of the Tesla Cybertruck began in November and has showcased various features that make it unique in the electric vehicle market. Tesla’s head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, revealed that the company initially planned to eliminate side view mirrors from the Cybertruck. However, due to vehicle regulations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the addition of these mirrors became mandatory. Tesla aims to eventually remove the side mirrors, as the company believes it would streamline the vehicle’s design. While the original prototype of the Cybertruck displayed a streamlined and angular look without side mirrors, pricing and features have since evolved. The price of the cheapest model, initially estimated at $39,990 with a range of 500 miles, has been significantly increased to $60,990 and a range of 320 miles. In addition, a giant windshield wiper that wasn’t originally part of the design was added to the final version of the Cybertruck, providing a necessary solution to the challenge of keeping the enormous front window rain-free. While Tesla had initially considered a more complex design that would retract the wipers under the hood of the truck, they ultimately opted for a simpler system. These changes reflect the challenges and modifications that can occur during the production process of a highly anticipated vehicle like the Cybertruck.
